Don't be afraid to touch and interact with the artwork in Hands On, presented by Chicago-based collective, Deadline Projects. Breaking down boundaries between art and audience in this one-night exhibition, local artists unveil new work specifically created to be touched, handled, and manipulated by the audience.  Hands On is a free event and opens to the public on October 10th, from 6:00pm to 11:00pm at Happy Dog Gallery.

Hands On is part of Chicago Artists Month 2009, the fourteenth  annual celebration of Chicago’s vibrant visual art community. In October, more than 200 exhibitions of emerging and established artists, openings, demonstrations, tours, open studios and neighborhood art walks take place at galleries, cultural centers and arts buildings throughout the city.  Chicago Artists Month is organized by the Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs and is made possible through support provided by Bank of America. 07/17/09:  HIGH ART

ALDO CASTILLO GALLERY-- 675 N FRANKLIN ST
OPENING RECEPTION-- 07/17/09, 5:30PM - 9:00PM



Literally taking their work to new heights, the artists of Deadline Projects presented High Art, a 5-day, open to the public exhibition of creative and non -traditional mobiles at Aldo Castillo Gallery located at the River North Gallery District.

Freedom essentially becomes a restriction in this innovative show, as local artists ban their art from the walls by designing new work specifically to be suspended in open air. High Art is a free event and opens to the public on Friday, July 17th, from 5:30 to 9 pm. Show will run from until July 23rd.

Participating artists include: Arielle Bielak, nikki hollander, Damien James, Rob Jeffries, Blake Parish Lewis, Sarah Perez, Holly Sabin, Stephen Shapiro, Shawn Stucky and Michael Una.



04/11/09: ABSOLUTE ZERO

HAPPY DOG GALLERY-- 1542 N. MILWAUKEE, 2ND FLOOR
ONE NIGHT ONLY-- 04/11/09, 6:00PM - 11:00PM

Celebrating their two-year anniversary, Chicago-based art collective Deadline Projects presented Absolute Zero, a one-night exhibition of multi-disciplinary art at Happy Dog Gallery in Wicker Park. In their 2009 opening show, local artists displayed new work inspired by scientific theories of unattainable purity and undefinable states of being. Absolute Zero was a free event and opened to the public on Saturday, April 11th, from 6pm to 11pm. Live music was performed by Moment Sound.

Participating artists in this show included:  Jeremy Bolen, carlsweets, Miguel Guzman, nikki hollander, Damien James, Rob Jeffries, Jason Judd, Blake Parish Lewis, Sarah Perez, Holly Sabin, Stephen Shapiro, David Soukup, and Shawn Stucky.


11/15/08: ELECTRIC

Electric
was a one-night-only multimedia art exhibition at Happy Dog Gallery located in the heart of Wicker Park.  Exploring the dialogue between art and energy, participating local artists displayed new works in painting, photography, sculpture, stencil, collage, and video in an event designed to stimulate their audience.  Live music was be provided by Moment Sound.

Deadline Projects teams up with fellow Chicago collectives Parts and Labor and Infidel Group in this "Chicago Artists Month" exclusive.  Works from selected artists in each collective will be showcased.

ABOUT THE OTHER COLLECTIVES:
Parts and Labor Collective-- Founded in 2006 by Daniel Gerdes, the collective is a DIY network of creatives building an alternative to the tired gallery system. No two shows are alike. Artists represent themselves and keep 100% of the profits from their artwork. No contracts. No hullabaloo. Change the rules.  Go Under the Radar.  Take Back the Art.

Infidel Group-- Infidel Group was formed in 2006 with the goal of uniting Chicago's artists and public through laid-back exhibitions in comfortable alternative spaces. The group members work collaboratively to put on unique events that feature artwork and live music in a welcoming and positive atmosphere.

07/21/07: SHIKU-GARU/MELON-CHAN

For the second installment of the Shiku-Garu series, the artists of Deadline Projects were invited to display their art at the opening of the art/music/dance party in celebration of the graduation of Melon-Chan.

Melon is a character created by artist James Beckman.  She's a girl who has just accomplished a major milestone in her life, getting her BFA, yet she feels small now out in the big world.  Melon represents feelings that many artists have after joining the 'real world'.  The artworks presented channelled the spirit of Melon-Chan and were guided by the dimensions of 12" x 12" x 12" or smaller. Tiny art for a fictitious girl who feels small.

04/13/07: PARASKAVEDEKATRIAPHOBIA

Paraskavedekatriaphobia (the fear of Friday the 13th) was a one-night art event featuring works by Aga, Arielle Bielak, Blake Parish Lewis, Gretel Garcia-Cuba, Peter James, Sarah Perez, Holly Sabin, Marc Salha, nikki hollander, Shawn Stucky, with the musical performance by Slava. The participating artists showed new work in their chosen media focusing on the concept of superstitions.
